The Metropolitan Museum of Art (Book) Restorer Grade:17 (Full-time) Thomas J. Watson Library Date: 27 Sep 95 Responsibilities: 1. Work for the Watson Library and for MMA departmental libraries 2. Provides physical processing, repair and conservation treatment of library materials, e.g. bookplating, pamphlet binding, preservation enclosures, boxes, rebacking, case binding, and paper repair. 3. Assists the Preservation Librarian in the instruction and supervision of volunteers. 4. Duties include the maintenance of equipment and conservation facility and departmental recordkeeping. 5. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Experience in bookbinding is required, with demonstrated skills in book repair, bookbinding, boxmaking and paper repair. Under the direction of the Preservation Librarian, works on all aspects of binding, conservation and preservation for the MMA Library system. Must have good organizational skills and be able to work and communicate well with people. e.g. library staff and curatorial departmental staff.
