Minolta scanner

Further comments on the Minolta DPCS 3000:

The passive cradle bed adjusts to the given opening as you restrain
the book. Its a clever articulation. The triggers are like
typewriter space bars on either side that always end up just under
your free fingers, regardless of book size. The contour of the page
spread is imaged via a mirror and software corrects the drape of the
print lines in the copy.

This is certainly a wonderful exemplar of a look-down digital camera
for books. It should also be considered for collections such as
botanical specimens as it has a genuine depth of focus and 4" deep
field. In demonstrations it is linked to PS3000 Minolta copier with
useful software of its own and a print speed to match the 4 second
scans. Color and network options to follow.

The preservation implications of this face-up system for work with
bound books are great. Let's hope this is the Next Generation of
library copier.
