Creased oil painting

Scenario: 1890 Indonesian Oil on Canvas (31" x 54") very brittle canvas,
flaking paint layer, yellowed varnish, several vertical creases due to poor
storage. No hot table available. Obviously it needs to be lined, but after
working on small sections using wax/iron method, I can see that the creases
are not going to flatten completely. Any advise?
