PARS Discussion Group: Fundraising and Support for Preservation It has always been a challenge to convince policy makers and resource allocators, whether at the institutional, state or federal level, of the importance preserving library and archival materials. However, those responsible for the preservation of collections may face new challenges in the current political climate. Recognizing this, "Fundraising and Support for Preservation" will be the topic of the Preservation and Reformatting Section Discussion Group at ALA Midwinter in San Antonio. John Dean, Director, Department of Preservation and Conservation, Cornell University, and Ann Russell, Director, Northeast Document Conservation Center will discuss, separately, their fundraising successes and advocacy experiences. The session will be moderated by Ann Olszewski, Preservation Librarian, Cleveland Public Library, and Steve Smith, Preservation Service Field Services Officer, AMIGOS Bibliographic Council. There will, of course, be plenty of opportunity for discussion from audience members. The session begins at 8:00 am on Sunday, January 21 in the Hyatt Medina Room, and will be followed by an informal reporting session. We invite all regional preservation and conservation centers, granting agencies, and other groups and organizations concerned with library preservation to report on their current activities and future plans.
