The following announcement of an RFP from the Library of Congress for conversion of original materials to digital images might be of interest to list subscribers. Mathura, Contracting Officer, 202-707-8609. The Library of Congress (LC) has a requirement to digitize portions of original books and manuscripts in order to permit the dissemination of its content online as part of the National Digital Library Program. The solicitation is divided into two (2) LOT's. LOT 1 includes scanning images of standard-sized bound and unbound materials as well as the conversion and SGML-encoding (in accordance with the Library's DTD) of a portion of the digital images to machine-readable texts. LOT 2 includes the scanning of large and fragile bound materials. The scanned images and converted texts shall also be logically named and/or numbered and delivered on write-once CD-ROM disks. An indefinite quantity task order contract with a base year and four (4) option years is anticipated. A preproposal conference shall be held on June 5, 1996.
