Subject: Removing wax from daguerreotypes
I have a couple of pieces of daguerreian jewelry from which I need to remove candlewax from the image. The wax was used to seal the image in its ring-retainer prior to placement in the article of jewelry. In the examples at hand, the wax flowed over the image rather than confining itself to the backside. A daguerreotype is fairly robust in that it should be able to handle most solvents, but is unable to withstand any abrasion, of course. Any suggestions as to what would be most effective? Gary W.
