Subject: Course on care of oversize and unusual paper artifacts
The Campbell Center for Historic Preservation Studies, Mount Carroll, Illinois, is again offering a four-day course on the Care of Oversize and Unusual Paper Artifacts. The course will take place July 24-27, 1996, at the Campbell Center in Illinois. It will address the care, handling and storage of oversize and unusual materials including maps, posters, architectural plans, globes and wallpapers. The instructor will be Mary Todd Glaser, Director of Paper Conservation at the Northeast Document Conservation Center. The course includes a review of materials, media and mechanisms for deterioration; storage options; handling, including unrolling of brittle papers; and hands-on training in flattening, surface cleaning, paper repair and polyester film encapsulation. The course fee is $500, which includes accommodations. NEH scholarships, which reduce the course cost by half, are available for employees of non-profit institutions.
