I cannot speak from personal experience about water sensors that are
directly connected into the alarm system, but I do know that I
recommend them to institutions that have the potential for flooding.
At a previous institution, we installed a battery-operated one in an
area after it flooded when the sump pump failed in a rain storm. We
did not have a problem after that--figures. At the same time, we
did install a battery-operated water sensor in the basement of our
house that flooded occasionally when the sump pump failed or the
electricity went out and then, when it went back on, pumped forever.
On several occasions I was woken up by the beeping two floors below,
and I was able to deal with water on the floor at a manageable depth
rather than learning of 3-6 inches there when I happened to go down
on some other errand. I strongly recommend them.
