Subject: Odour removal
Does anyone have any suggestions or information on the following: 1. Ozone and its effects on cellulosic material (i.e. paper and textiles). Some salvage companies are using ozone to treat mouldy books and documents or smoke-damaged artifacts to eradicate odours. As I understand it, ozone is an oxidizer and can be deleterious to cellulose. Is there any literature on the subject? 2. Other methods of getting rid of mouldy or musty odours in books. Some people have suggested Lysol, baking soda, or deodorizers from the hardware store. Do any of these really work? *** Conservation DistList Instance 10:24 Distributed: Friday, September 6, 1996 Message Id: cdl-10-24-016 ***Received on Tuesday, 3 September, 1996
