In Conservation DistList Instance 10:45, Beth Doyle asked about
toner stability. Best book on toner formulations, etc is

An Introduction to Dry Toner Technology

Two elements are important, the pigment and the resin carrier. The
pigment is normally about 10 % carbon black which is pretty much
stable, the resins are based on a wide range of polymers including,
acrylics, epoxies, polyamides, polyesters, polystyrene, polyethylene.
Most of today's are based on styrene-acrylic copolymers, with most
toner manufacturers (frequently the copier manufacturer) having
their own secret formulations. It is therefore very difficult to
predict stability when you cannot get the formulation from a
manufacturer and when each supplier has several different
formulations.
