Information Management Assistant Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Information Management Assistant at the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training (NCPTT). NCPTT is an office of the National Park Service located on the campus of Northwestern State University of Louisiana (NSU)in Natchitoches, Louisiana. The position is through NSU and is available immediately for a period of one year. NCPTT is an interdisciplinary facility that serves the historic preservation community nationwide. NCPTT's current work includes the fields of historic architecture, archeology, historic landscapes, objects and materials conservation, and the interpretation aspect of history. NCPTT undertakes its work through three administrative components: research, training, and information management. Central to the mission of NCPTT is the dissemination of information in a wide variety of media with the focus on electronic distribution. Under its information management component, NCPTT operates an Internet gopher site, World Wide Web page, and computerized fax-on-demand system. NCPTT's office computers are linked via Windows NT Server, and Internet access is through NSU. The Information Management Assistant position is within NCPTT's information management component--supervised by NCPTT's Information Management Coordinator. The Information Management Assistant's tasks will include assisting NCPTT's Information Management Coordinator in Configuring, maintaining and upgrading NCPTT's computer hardware and software; Managing NCPTT's Windows NT based LAN; Assisting NCPTT staff with computer-related tasks and problems; Troubleshooting and resolving problems in NCPTT's office equipment including computer hardware and software; Other tasks as assigned, including administrative and clerical tasks that support the overall operation of NCPTT. The successful candidate must have at least a bachelors degree in computer science or a related field, knowledge of and experience with LANs, database management, and problem resolution. Experience with Windows NT is required. Knowledge of Paradox 5.0, Excel 5.0, WordPerfect 6.1, FileMaker Pro 3.0, and the Internet is desired. Good organizational skills and the ability to deal effectively with computer users of varying experience and expertise are assets. Appropriate experience in lieu of education will be considered.
