January 6, 1998 1997 Scientific and Technical Academy Award Winners Technical Achievement Awards (Academy Certificates) To James M. Reilly, Douglas W. Nishimura and Monique C. Fisher of the Rochester Institute of Technology for the creation of A-D Strips, a diagnostic tool for the detection of the presence of vinegar syndrome in processed acetate-based motion picture film. A-D (Acid Detector) Strips provide a repeatable, quantitative, calibrated check of the presence and extent of vinegar syndrome progression, a slow form of chemical deterioration, in stored processed acetate-based film. Scientific and Technical Awards are given for devices, methods, formulas, discoveries or inventions of special and outstanding value to the arts and sciences of motion pictures and that also have a proven history of use in the motion picture industry.
