Subject: Conservation exhibits
The latest responses to David Harvey's inquiry on conservation exhibits made me think about The Conservation Centre at the National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside. The National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside (NMGM) have recently established a conservation centre that brings together all the conservators working for the institute (except the shipbuilders!) under one roof. Part of the rational behind the establishment of the centre was to promote conservation to the general public. They have developed permanent exhibitions and a walk around tour were you can view conservation work in progress. The centre has won several awards and was featured in the Museum Journal last year, I can't give details as our copies have gone to binding.
