Subject: Publications on watermarks and bookbindings
As our personal attention spans become ever more overloaded, cause us to cope by narrowing the literature we can scan, there is the chance that some followers of the DistList may not regularly read The Book Collector (GB), thereby missing in the Spring 1998 number the ad for William E. Coleman's Watermarks in the Manuscripts of Boccaccio's Il Teseida: A Codicological Study and Album (Firenze: Olschki, 1997). The blurb at <URL:http://www.olschki.it> is an abbreviated version of the full-page one in BC. The latter may better indicate the breadth of interest, understated by the title. It is a notice in BC rather than an ad which informs us of Guide to the Census of Western Medieval Binding Structures. This, it should be understood, is not such a census proper but rather the instruction manual for the conduct of such census. Available from Dr Jenny Shepherd, at Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge CB3 OBU, price 8 GBP. *** Conservation DistList Instance 11:89 Distributed: Tuesday, May 5, 1998 Message Id: cdl-11-89-013 ***Received on Monday, 4 May, 1998
