Subject: EMSIG web site
Now on the EMSIG (Electronic Materials Special Interest Group of AIC) site, <URL:http://www.bosartconserv.com/sig/resources.htm#photog> is a new section called: Noteworthy Projects - Universal Preservation Format, with an update on the UPF (Universal [file] Preservation Format) from the Project leader Thom Shepard. The UPF initiative, if realized, will make "infinite" archival file migration possible. The latest meeting was held at Microsoft HQ; this looks very good for the future of electronic file migration, however, making standards is a slow process. Also on the EMSIG site, is Walter Henry's list of Listservs and Newsgroups that are useful to EMG members (EMSIG will soon to be evolved into the Electronic Materials Group, EMG). It is located at <URL:http://www.bosartconserv.com/sig/resources.htm#photog>, as above, under the headings: Digital imaging & processing: - General - Image processing & related topics - Digital photography. It was intended that this information would be distributed at the EMSIG session, in the Arlington VA, at the 1998 AIC Meeting, but there was no time for discussion, so it was regrettable dropped. This information is very valuable to everyone interested in digital imaging.
