I have had good results using polyester resin. It can be tinted to match color and transparency, doesn't yellow like epoxy, and is reversible with acetone and methylene chloride. I recomend using a "surfacing resin" which will cure to a hard, tack free surface. This is hard enough to take a high polish, and soft enough to be finished without damage to adjacent surfaces.
