Document Conservator South Carolina Department of Archives and History Vacancy # 99-06 The SC Department of Archives and History Center is accepting applications for a Document Conservator. This Band 4 position is a permanent full-time position and is classified as an Archivist III in the State's classification system. The salary range minimum is $20,233, the midpoint is $28,832 and the maximum of the range is $37,431. The salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Nature of Work: Under general supervision, performs a variety of technical and often complex laboratory conservation treatments on rare and unique archival materials. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Broad knowledge of conservation techniques and treatment proposals. Considerable knowledge of photographic principles and conservation techniques. Knowledge of paper chemistry and/or specialized document conservation treatments. Knowledge of leafcasting. Ability to perform duties requiring superior manual dexterity. Ability to perform complex book repair techniques, including leather bindings. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to train conservator, technician, graduate level interns, or assistants. Ability to develop and present workshops. Basic knowledge of computer skills. Minimum Training and Experience: Bachelor's degree and related professional experience or directly related course work. Preferred Training and Experience: Graduation from a recognized conservation training program, usually involving two years of study and an internship of at least one year or a master's degree in chemistry, library science, or related field and two years of professional work experience.
