Assistant Conservator of Furniture and Woodwork The Philadelphia Museum of Art is seeking a conservator for the treatment of furniture and woodwork in a one year position structured in part around preparation for the exhibition "Worldly Goods: The Decorative Arts of Colonial Pennsylvania, 1680-1758" opening in October 1999. The individual will serve as an active member of the Conservation Department and will, along with the staff furniture conservators, be responsible for technical examinations, conservation treatment, written reports, loan checks, and the supervision of technicians during installation of furniture and architectural woodwork in the exhibition. Later in the year, treatment will include furniture from the European and East Asian collections. A contract extension beyond one year is possible. The preferred candidate will have formal graduate level training in furniture conservation or equivalent education and a minimum of two years professional experience in the conservation of furniture including analysis and treatment of clear finishes. Applicants must possess excellent woodworking hand skills. Salary is commensurate with experience, plus benefits. Applications should be received by January 1, 1999.
