and similar comments have been posted by Dave and others. Several
people, including have implied that OSG members had a some kind of
surprise sprung on them. This is simply not true. A document
entitled "Report of the AIC Objects Specialty Group Email Task
Force, June 1996" (which as I recall was distributed at the OSG
meeting) reads:

    "4. All messages will be archived in CoOL (Conservation Oh-Line
    [sic]) so they will be available for viewing by anybody who can
    access CoOL."

How much clear did we have to be?
