Sausage casings are re-constituted collagen (ground up and cast into
forms); natural skin condoms are another source, and these can be
found in most cities.  All of the samples of 'gold beater's skin'
which I've examined have been treated with a lubricant (and I'm not
referring to condoms).  The best membranes I know of (he said,
patting himself on the back) are those which I've produced from the
outer membrane of ox/cattle intestines.

It is simple to do, but somewhat disagreeable. Details are available
