Subject: Detroit Institute of Arts receives National Park Service grant
Thanks to a recent grant of $23,085 from the National Park Service's National Center for Preservation Technology and Training (NCPTT), The Detroit Institute of Arts will upgrade and expand the X-ray diffraction system and data analysis capabilities of its Conservation Services Laboratory. By improving crucial capabilities, the museum will further increase the efficiency of materials analysis, enhancing the accuracy and reliability with which it can identify pigments and other artists' materials, and corrosion products. The DIA's Conservation Services Laboratory is a resource for art, historical and cultural institutions throughout the country, providing examination, analysis, documentation and treatment of artistic and historic works. It also provides collection surveys, training, and advice in developing long-range conservation plans. The laboratory's research scientists work with curators and conservators to address questions of condition, technique and authenticity; determine appropriate storage or display materials; and assist in the selection of conservation treatments.
