Conservation Adviser The Government Records Service Division, Hong Kong The Government Records Service Division, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is seeking an experienced conservator to fill the position of Conservation Adviser in its Public Records Office. Entry requirements : Candidates should: (a) have a recognized degree or equivalent in conservation; and (b) have at least 5 years post-qualification working experience in an archival environment. Duties: The Conservation Adviser is required to develop and administer a comprehensive conservation programme for the archives, which includes the coordination of all in-house treatment activities; planning and implementation of a disaster preparedness programme, and training of staff in conservation techniques. As such, the Conservation Adviser is expected to be able to institute and execute a conservation programme that includes at least the following components : 1. environmental control of an archives; 2. conservation measures and treatments for a wide range of records media : paper, microforms, audio tape cassettes, VHS video tapes, films, photographs, computer disks and tapes, etc.; and 3. professional development, i.e. building up a technical library and providing staff training. Terms of appointment : The successful candidate will be appointed as Conservation Adviser on non-civil service terms for a period of two and a half years and paid a salary in arrears in local currency, i.e. Hong Kong dollars (HK$). On appointment, the candidate will receive a monthly salary equivalent to Point 34 of the Government's Master Pay Scale (MPS), which is currently HK$47,970. Subject to conduct and diligence being satisfactory during the preceding year, the officer will receive a salary equivalent to MPS 35 and 36 after, respectively, 12 months and 24 moths of service. Fringe benefits : A gratuity of appropriate percentage of the total basic salary drawn may be granted if the contract is satisfactorily completed with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Paid vacation leave (i.e. 27 days per year of resident service), sick leave, medical and dental benefits, housing allowance for reimbursement of rent for local accommodation, where appropriate, are available.
