Subject: Offgassing from MDF
The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery are preparing to relocate the gallery to a new site. The gallery will be housed in a an existing concrete building that will be renovated specifically for the purpose. The design for the new gallery is currently being finalised. The architects have recommended the use of a sandwich of plasterboard and MDF to be used for the internal walls. Artworks will be hung on the plasterboard, therefore will not come in direct contact with the MDF. We are naturally concerned about the amount of gas emission likely to be given off by the MDF. Does anyone have any comments to make on this proposal? Can anyone suggest a good article explaining the dangers of using MDF in a gallery situation that we can show to our architects? *** Conservation DistList Instance 13:42 Distributed: Wednesday, February 2, 2000 Message Id: cdl-13-42-029 ***Received on Tuesday, 1 February, 2000
