Association of College and Research Libraries / New England Chapter Preservation-Conservation Interest Group Leather Deterioration and Treatment Options Homer Babbidge Library, University of Connecticut Storrs, Connecticut March 23, 2000 9:30 am - 3 pm The March meeting of the ACRL/NE Chapter/Preservation-Conservation Interest Group will be a review and discussion of treatment options for deteriorating leather bound books. Kristen St.John of Rutgers University will report on the causes of leather deterioration and bring us all up to date on leather dressing. Eric Alstrom, Dartmouth College Library, will demonstrate the Etherington Japanese Tissue Hinge repair. Beth Doyle of Harvard University and Heather Caldwell of MIT will discuss the variety of treatments available. Participants are encouraged to bring examples of treatments that have worked well (or failed). Following a box lunch at the library a tour of the conservation lab, marking room, and bindery prep area will be given by Carole Dyall, Collections Conservator and Preservation Officer at the University of Connecticut. The Homer Babbidge Library has recently been renovated and a tour of the rest of the building will be available for those who are interested. Cost: $15.00 per person to cover costs of lunch, coffee service, and speaker's travel expenses. Send registration form and check for $15.00 payable to Barb Sagraves.
