Samuel H. Kress Fellow in Painting Conservation The Conservation Center Institute of Fine Arts, New York University This position is intended primarily to assist the Consulting Conservator of the Samuel H. Kress Collection and the Associate Conservator/Senior Fellow in the administration of the many tasks of involved in the Kress Program in Painting Conservation. The Fellow is responsible for all administrative aspects of the Painting Conservation course, including ordering supplies and keeping lab in order, coordinating delivery and pick up of Kress paintings with the registrars of the regional museums, uncrating and re-crating of completed paintings, arranging for storage of crates, maintaining the individual paintings files and other documents, and making arrangements for photography. The Fellow should also be available to supervise students in the absence of the Consulting Conservator and Senior Fellow. In addition, the Fellow is assigned paintings from the Kress Collection for treatment. The Kress Fellow is also the coordinator of the core conservation course, Technology and Structure of Works of Art I. The Fellow serves as the liaison between course faculty and students, arranges for guest speakers, and prepares course materials. The Fellow should also be available to students to answer questions about their panel painting project have to be addressed in the absence of the four faculty members. Occasional travel to Kress regional and study collections around the country may be necessary to perform on-site work or surveys. Travel funds are available for surveys and for travel to research Kress Collection paintings. The Fellowship cycle is 15 August 2000 - 15 August 2001. The Fellowship is renewable up to three years and carries a stipend of $23,000 per annum plus fringe benefits and the travel stipend. Applicant requirements: Applicants should be graduates of a recognized training program or have equivalent experience. One year of postgraduate work in painting conservation with background in the treatment of traditional easel paintings is desirable. Application procedure: Candidates must be US citizens.
