Subject: Position at Independent Media Arts Preservation
Executive Director Independent Media Arts Preservation (IMAP) Independent Media Arts Preservation (IMAP), a new service, education, and advocacy consortium organized to ensure the preservation of independent electronic media for cultural and educational use by future generations, seeks an Executive Director. Please note that this position is a part-time consultant's position with an initial contract period of six months. However, we expect that the Director will raise sufficient funds to make the position full-time and further define and develop the organization. In addition, this position offers the means for influencing national policy on electronic media preservation, as well as the opportunity to shape a dynamic new organization. Only a year-old, IMAP has already received funding from the New York State Council on the Arts, the Rockefeller Foundation, the New York Foundation for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Director will: * Represent and advocate for electronic media preservation and for the organization before state and federal agencies, funding groups and professional organizations * Supervise the on-going technical assistance program designed to teach the MARC for FileMaker Template * Supervise and mold the Web Tutorial Project designed to teach the MARC for FileMaker Template via the Internet. * Develop a program to address the issues of storage and long-term care of electronic media * Serve as a resource on preservation for the electronic media community. * Raise funds to complete the Web-Tutorial Project, continue other programs and make the position full-time IMAP members represent over 40 organizations in the electronic media field including the Museum of Modern Art, the Kitchen, the Donnell Media Center, the Dance Collection of the New York Public Library, the National Museum of the American Indian, the Jewish Museum, the Experimental Television Center, Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, the Art Media Studies Department of Syracuse University, Paper Tiger Television, the Bay Area Video Coalition, Electronic Arts Intermix and the Video Data Bank.
