Subject: BS 4971:1999--Repair and allied procedures for the conservation of documents
BS 4971:1999 Repair and Allied Procedures for the Conservation of Documents This British Standard is a rewrite of the BS 4971 part 1 and 2. The committee headed by John MacIntyre includes heads of conservation from national institutions, and representatives from professional bodies and the bookbinding trade. BS 4971 is now available as a 'draft for public comment'. Individuals or organisations can buy copies from BSI in order to make comments on the draft. The new standard is very different from its predecessor. Much of the previous Standard was instructional in practice methods. The new Standard emphasises principles and practices, and is less proscriptive. Comments must be received by the end of May 2000. Copies can be bought from BSI Customer Services +44 208996 9001 Fax: +44 20 8996 7001 orders [at] bsi__org__uk The reference number for the draft is 00/623800.
