Subject: Call for papers--AIC Annual Meeting
Call for papers "State of the Art: Conservation in 2001" General Sessions of the 29th Annual Meeting American Institute for Conservation May 29 - June 4, 001 Dallas TX Deadline for submitting abstracts: August 1, 2000 The General Sessions of the AIC meeting will consist of three half-day sessions. In the first, "Creativity and Conservation", we will look at how radically new treatments, ways of approaching problems, and philosophies of conservation are developed, and will explore the personalities and environments which foster them. The second session will be comprised of case studies on the use of new materials and equipment in the treatment of works of art. In an effort to strengthen the bonds between specialties, after the individual presentations, the speakers will participate in a panel discussion on how those techniques and materials might be used in specialties other than the ones in which they were developed. The third session, "Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?" will provide us with the opportunity to evaluate the state of the field in the realms of private practice, museums, and regional centers. It will also provide a forum for the discussion of ethical questions and historical evaluations of treatments. The Program Committee will consider the following factors when choosing papers for presentation: general interest for the AIC membership, suitability for oral presentation, and quality and significance. Abstracts should be double spaced and no more than two pages in length. If possible, abstracts should be submitted in an electronic form such as in the body of an e-mail message. The deadline for submitting abstracts is Tuesday, August 1, 2000. Send them to: AIC 1717 K Street, NW Ste.301, Washington DC 20006 Fax: 202-452-9328; info [at] aic-faic__org.
