Duties: Serves as an Archives Specialist in the Military Personnel
Records Center (NRPM), Preservation Branch, responsible for
providing guidance, instruction, and assistance to the preservation
staff on applying policies and procedures to implement the
preservation program. Coordinates one or a combination of the
following duties: arrangement, preservation and rehabilitation, and
description and disposal of archival holdings. Advises the
preservation officer in the direction and implementation of the
holdings maintenance program in conformance with the NRPM
preservation program. Determines the productivity standards and the
level of the preservation work to be performed by staff assigned to
project work. Performs detailed and difficult arrangement work.
Prepares finding aids such as shelf lists, special lists, indexes,
and location registers; and identifies and describes series within
record groups in terms of their subject content, chronology, volume,
an internal arrangement. Ensures that records scheduled for disposal
are disposed of appropriately, effectively, and in a timely manner.
Develops preservation surveys and prepares written recommendations
on future projects to ensure records receive systematic preservation
and conservation work (including holdings maintenance). Coordinates,
leads, and reviews the work of coworkers; provides on-the-job
training and technical assistance as needed.

Duties: Serves as a Preservation Specialist in the Military
Personnel Records Center (NRPM), Preservation Branch, responsible
for performing a full range of projects concerned with preserving
and reproducing all types of archival records. Provides technical
assistance and guidance on: preserving non-textual records;
reformatting and duplicating textual records, including accessioned
microfilm and non-textual records; and, digital-imaging technology
and digitizing all types of archival records. Identifies appropriate
reproduction, reformatting, and duplication options and performs
technical and cost-benefit analysis in order to make
recommendations. Identifies and evaluates criteria for contracting
services, products, or equipment related to preserving,
reformatting, or digitizing archival records, and writes contractual
specifications. Maintains a professional understanding of these
areas and develops appropriate procedures and guidelines.
