Conservation Scientist Conservation Research Group The British Museum UKP15,000 A vacancy has arisen within The British Museum, Department of Conservation for a Conservation Scientist to work in the Conservation Research Group. The Group undertakes research into the deterioration of objects and the methods and materials of conservation; undertakes analysis required to facilitate conservation and is responsible for preventive conservation in the Museum. The current vacancy is for a scientist to work mainly on preventive conservation, with some laboratory duties assisting other scientists in the Group. With increasing experience there will be the opportunity for greater involvement in research. Duties: To work within the Museum's Health and Safety Policy, provide an environmental monitoring service for collection care to the Museum. To manage the British Museum Materials Testing Service, managing the Department of Conservation chemical stores, maintaining stocks and to assist in the analysis and research work of the Conservation Research Group. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a minimum qualification of good 'A' level grades in mathematics and chemistry or physics, and GCSE English Language. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential. Experience of working within a laboratory, or conservation environment, and an interest in museums are desirable.
