Museum Scientist - Organic Analysis National Museums of Scotland We are seeking a motivated and well qualified analytical organic chemist to assist in the identification of organic materials associated with the collections such as natural and synthetic adhesives, polymers (plastics) and coatings. Practical experience in infrared spectroscopic trace analysis is essential and microscopic skills highly desirable. You should be an excellent communicator. This is a part-time appointment funded for approximately one and a half days per week (not less than 12 hours) and working with an experienced organic chemist who concentrates on the analysis of natural dyes from historic artefacts. The post is within the Analytical Research Section of the Department of Conservation and Analytical Research. The department has responsibility for conservation of all artefact collections in the museum, work which is undertaken by some 15 staff in the Artefact, Textile and Paper and Engineering Conservation Sections. The conservation is complemented by staff in the Analytical Research Section who provide a scientific analysis service and undertake research projects to further curatorial understanding of the museum collections. The post will be funded pro-rata at an annual salary of UKP16-UKP18,000.
