Subject: Public outreach programs
Artlab Australia and the State Library of South Australia are exploring possibilities the development of a facility that allows the public a "behind the scenes" view of conservators at work and of broader conservation public programs . We would be delighted to hear from anyone who: * has worked in a lab that provides "behind the scenes" access for the public and who would like to comment on the advantages and disadvantages, how they have approached the design of such labs, how it affects treatment programs, what the public response is etc. * is involved in developing conservation public programs such as, provision of information on the conservation profession, information on conservation ethics, information on what conservation involves, preventive conservation information. The emphasis here is less on training programs and more on people's experience of delivery systems preferred by the public eg, face to face talks, touch screen computer systems etc. Comments on your preferred delivery systems and on the impact of these on your conservation treatment programs would also be very welcome. **** Moderator's comments: For a start, see <URL:http://www.artsmia.org/restoration-online/> Vicki Humphrey Assistant Director Paper Training and Technical Services Artlab Australia *** Conservation DistList Instance 14:8 Distributed: Thursday, July 27, 2000 Message Id: cdl-14-8-009 ***Received on Wednesday, 26 July, 2000
