Subject: Permanence of Indigo digital prints
Richard Minsky <minsky [at] minsky__com> writes >I have been asked to participate in a fine art publishing project >that will be printed on an Indigo digital printing press, and have >been unable to find any data on permanence. In 1995 we tested the light fading stability of Indigo prints made with an Indigo E-Print 1000 machine and, using our standard test methods, the prints had a predicted display life of approximately 12 years before noticeable fading occurs when displayed under glass with 450 lux cool white fluorescent illumination for 12 hours a day. This was generally similar to the light fading stability of Kodak Ektacolor chromogenic color negative paper of that era. Refer to our web site <URL:http://www.wilhelm-research.com> for additional information. We have not tested Indigo prints made with more recent toner sets and these early data may or may not relate to current products. Although not tested, the dark storage stability of Indigo prints is, depending on the paper used to make the prints, potentially very good.
