Assistant Conservator (Grade JE6, UKP19,800 - UKP23,510 pa inclusive) London Metropolitan Archives We are looking for an Assistant Conservator to join a team of 5 in the Preservation Section of the London Metropolitan Archives, the largest local authority in the country, with 32 miles of archives and books and 56 staff. LMA is also responsible for the management of Keats House in Hampstead. This busy office, located in Clerkenwell, offers an excellent workshop environment and the opportunity to carry out a variety of conservation and preservation work. The successful candidate must be able to undertake work to a high standard. Your principal duties will involve conservation treatment on a full range of items from the archives' collections, learning new techniques as appropriate. Conservation staff are responsible for the preparation of work for microfilming, surveying, liaison with the reading rooms and reprographics section as well as in-house training in handling and preservation issues. The Keats House collection includes paintings, photographs, special collection printed books, furniture and artefacts. The assistant conservator should be able to provide remedial treatments for bound material where appropriate, give advice and contribute to the exhibition programme at Keats House. Applicants should hold a degree and/or equivalent qualification in paper conservation. In addition, the successful candidate should have good organisational and communication skills and a proven ability to produce work of a high order within specified time periods. They should be able to work in dusty conditions, climb ladders and handle heavy items with care. CV's will not be considered. Only those chosen for interview will be contacted.
