Subject: Corrosion Intercept
Julie-Anne Arslanoglu <j.arslanoglu [at] vam__ac__uk> writes I have been asked by the Victoria and Albert Museum to evaluate Corrosion Intercept, a product of Omega Intercept, as a storage and/or display material. Keith Donaldson of Engineered Materials <URL:http://www.staticintercept.com/> producer of Corrosion Intercept (CI) film and related products informs me that: "Nora Nagy and Carol Strengari at the Guggenheim Museum has used CI for wrapping bronze sculpture; Hugh Phibbs at the National Galley (Smithsonian) uses CI film as backing for artwork (a majority of contaminants were coming in through the walls); the conservation department at the Philadelphia Museum of Art uses CI film to store objects and paintings (and also for transportation); the conservation department at the Getty Museum uses bags and film for object storage: Pam Hatchfield at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts uses CI film for packaging objects (they have lined some display cases with the film): Joe Allen building cases for the Colonial WIlliamsburg Foundation has lined display and storage cases with film to protect predominantly silver objects; the Harvard Museum has purchased bags for storage of fabrics and metallic threaded garments; Jonathan Farley at Kew Gardens Archives has tested the CD inserts manufactured out of Corrosion Intercept <URL:http://www.omega-intercept.com>) and shown that they are effective protection for long term storage of CD's (other methods of protecting CD's proved to be far less effective, or not effective at all in extending the life of CD's); the Minneapolis Museum of Art uses CI film and bags for objects storage, amongst others." As CI products are sold through a number of suppliers, Keith is not aware of all the users and applications. Keepsafe Systems lists Corrosion Intercept in their on-line catalogue at <URL:http://www.gowncare.com> I would ask any one who has used Corrosion Intercept to reply to this list, so that their response could be archived in CoOL.
