Focus on Textile Conservation November 13-17, 2000 Introduction: The Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage ( ICN), The Dutch Textile Committee (TCM) and the Textiles Working Group of the ICOM International Committee for Conservation are organizing a whole week dedicated to the conservation of textiles. November 13-14. Archaeological Textiles. Conservation and research: The ICOM CC Working group Textiles and the ICN have organized an interim meeting which will focus on the conservation of archaeological textiles. One day will be devoted to textiles from a wet archaeological context; the next day will be focused on textiles from a dry context. The preservation of the integrity of the textile object and its role as a carrier of information will be the central theme. November 15. Conservation workshops and museums. Tours to textile conservation workshops and museums with important textile collections will be organized. November 16. "Textile conservation, past--present--future". The Dutch Textile Committee will hold one of their traditional "Textile days". Many Dutch textile conservators are concerned about the erosion of the technical and theoretical knowledge of historic textiles in the Netherlands. The aim of the day is to take stock of the situation locally and internationally. The Past will focus on the history of textile conservation and the changing ethical viewpoints. The Present will focus on the image of the textile conservator in general and on various textile conservation workshops: the speakers will attempt to challenge this image. The Future focuses on recent developments in wet cleaning techniques. November 17, Conservation workshops and museums Tours to textile conservation workshops and museums with important textile collections will be organized. This will a repeat of the tours on 15 November. Location: The symposia will be held at The Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage which is located on the newly landscaped Museum Square close by the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Municipal Museum of Modern Art in Amsterdam.
