We are looking for a Senior Conservator to lead our highly skilled
team of 5 staff providing conservation services and advice to the
Corporation's libraries and, on request, to other Corporation
Departments and City institutions. The principal emphasis of the
Section's work is on maximising the availability of library items
for public use through swift, cost-effective conservation and
repair. The Senior Conservator personally conserves and repairs
manuscript materials and works closely with the Keeper of
Manuscripts to raise income, particularly conservation grants, from
depositors and donors.

The Department's collections, reflect London's wealth and status
over the centuries, with more than 5.7 linear miles of manuscripts
plus items in a range of materials (paper, parchment, seals,
watercolours, gilding,) and formats (books, fine bindings, rolls,
photographs etc), including materials for printing and
type-founding.

You must hold a recognised professional conservation qualification
(Associateship of the Institute of Paper Conservation, Society of
Archivists' Certificate in Archive Conservation or equivalent) and
have at least 7 years relevant post qualification experience,
preferably in a library or record office. Some experience of staff
management, basic computer literacy and the ability to produce clear
concise reports are essential, as is knowledge of the conservation
of parchment and vellum. Direct experience of their conservation and
experience in the commercial sector would be an advantage.

Interviews will take place in late October/early November. If
