Subject: Midwest Regional Conservation Guild
The 20th anniversary meeting of the Midwest Regional Conservation Guild will be held at Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee on November 3rd through the 5th, 2000. On Friday the 3rd there will be a preconference workshop on Digital Technology for Conservation; the workshop will cover the topics necessary for conservators to launch a digital documentation protocol in their workplace. Techniques for image capture will be discussed, these will include slide scanners, flatbed scanners, consumer digital cameras and high-resolution 4X5 scanning backs; the cameras will be demonstrated. Basic file manipulation in Adobe Photoshop will be demonstrated with some time for groups to learn basic functions on PC and Mac laptops. File formats and file migration will be discussed. Printing on the newest ultra-stable--pigmented inks--ink jet printer will be discussed and possibly demonstrated. The workshop leader will be Tim Vitale.
