Conservator Conservation Department Royal Armouries Leeds The Royal Armouries is the National Museum of Arms and Armour. The collection consists of military, experimental and sporting weapons and armour, royal armours and extensive artillery and oriental collections. We wish to recruit an experienced conservator. Overall Objective: To conserve and care for the Royal Armouries' collections within the overall guidelines of the museum's Collections Care Policy. Summary of Main Duties: Carry out, under supervision, conservation and restoration work on the collection as part of agreed long-term programmes and as necessitated by other museum requirements Carry out monitoring of all aspects of the environment within the museum. Carry out condition and/or priority surveys of the collections, as appropriate Work closely with collection care assistants to ensure that objects are packed and transported within the agreed museum standards and guidelines Any other duties commensurate with the grade. Qualifications and Experience: Applicants will be expected to have a relevant recognised conservation qualification and at least 3 years relevant experience. A good working knowledge of conservation methods, equipment and materials is essential. Candidates must also demonstrate flexibility in their approach to conservation and restoration issues.
