Polyethylene boxes

As quite a few conservators know, the Stewart Company used once to
manufacture polyethylene boxes with polyethylene lids. These were
opaque but stacked well and their lids sealed well. Then, about 10
years ago, the company started manufacturing new, transparent
polypropylene boxes which were brittle, did not stack so well and
from my own experience have lids with very unsatisfactory sealing.
The Stewart Company is currently willing to supply the old,
polyethylene boxes, but only if a very large quantity is ordered
(minimum 1500 for Pizza Storer and 2000 for Giant Storer).

However, conservators and museum workers may be interested to know
that in about 3 months time, the Stewart Company will be producing a
new line of boxes: transparent polypropylene bodies with
polyethylene lids. These have a potential for solving the stacking
and sealing problems, and also enable seeing Si-gel colour change
etc inside the box.
