Art Preparator (Full-time) Morgan Library Seeking skilled matter/framer, preparator, and art handler with museum experience. Experience: The ideal candidate must have at least two years of experience in archival matting and framing, knowledge of packing/unpacking, and exhibit installation; direct handling of paper-based items (prints, drawings, photographs, manuscript pages, archival documents) as well as a diversity of objects including paintings, sculpture, and furniture. The ability to meet deadlines and work effectively in a team is essential. Duties and Responsibilities: The Preparator will work under the direct supervision of the Paper Conservator. Assigned tasks vary daily and include, but are not limited to, measuring and cutting mats of different formats, rehousing items for storage, retrofitting frames, and framing items for exhibition and travel. Packing, unpacking, and moving artwork around the Library are regularly required. Installation activities can include affixing framed items, labels and signage to walls, measuring, cleaning and positioning display vitrines, and adjusting lighting. Qualifications: Required is a Bachelors degree in arts-related field or equivalent vocational experience of an artistic or technical nature. Experience working with hand tools and dexterity in handling a variety of both heavy and fragile objects are also required. Compensation:Salary is commensurate with experience.
