"The Bronze Seminar" has two parts, a first week which can stand
alone includes technical lecture/discussions and connoisseurship
tours of outdoor monuments in New York City. This week introduces
basic contemporary and historic elements of aesthetic, technical,
logistical and administrative practice for conserving outdoor bronze
sculpture. A conservator and conservation scientist, and art
historians and sculptor-foundry artisans help place bronze monuments
and their care in contexts of history, aesthetics, economics and
environmental science. After completion of the first week, some
seminar participants stay for a second week. Also led by experts,
the second week includes field exercises in hands-on conservation
and maintenance of outdoor bronzes. The Bronze Seminar has been
conducted in New York annually since 1994. Conservators,
conservation students, art handlers, artists, curators and
collection managers from around the world have participated in the
annual seminar.
