This week introduces basic contemporary and historic elements of aesthetic, technical, logistical and administrative practice for conserving outdoor bronze sculpture. A conservator and conservation scientist, and art historians and sculptor-foundry artisans help place bronze monuments and their care in contexts of history, aesthetics, economics and environmental science. After completion of the first week, some seminar participants stay for a second week. Also led by experts, the second week includes field exercises in hands-on conservation and maintenance of outdoor bronzes. The Bronze Seminar has been conducted in New York annually since 1994.
