Designed for conservators wishing to develop a greater understanding of issues involved in the treatment of waxes, this course provides an understanding of wax objects from a technological, structural and historical perspective. It demonstrates methods used to conserve/restore wax, whether found as a coating, a work of art, a seal, or an anatomical model. Participants make a seal copy, colour waxes and sheet wax. Conservation practice includes cleaning art objects and seals, simple repair of broken objects and infills. Practitioners in this very specialised field provide the teaching and there is a study visit to the Royal Library, Windsor Castle.
