Subject: Preservation Administrators Discussion Group
Preservation Administrators Discussion Group Friday, June 15, 2001, 3:30-5:30 MCC Room 304 PADG will meet on Friday at 3:30-5:30 in the Moscone Convention Center at ALA Annual. An interesting program has been planned following reports and announcements. Joan Brink, Cornell University, will lead a discussion on the migration from recording hygrothermographs to data-loggers to the present generation of Internet data-loggers, which she has helped to develop. She will talk about the advantages and disadvantages of the different recording instruments, as well as the political importance of constant internet monitoring with the wide distribution of data and automatic e-mail alerts. Abby Smith, will lead a discussion of CLIR's task force report on The Evidence in Hand: The Report of the Task Force on the Artifact in Library Collections. The report may be found at: <URL:http://www.clir.org/activities/details/artifact-docs.html>. We urge all of you to read the report before ALA. You will notice that PADG has been shortened for this meeting only to allow all of you to attend the OCLC Symposium on Digital Preservation (Friday, 1:00-3:30 in Salon B at the Marriott which is adjacent to the Convention Center). This symposium will define digital preservation, explain how preservation risks and challenges are different for digital materials, and identify preservation strategies and standards. To register for this pre-conference go to the Preservation Resources web page <URL:http://www.oclc.org/events/ala/friday.shtm> For those attending PADG there will be a reception immediately following the meeting and is sponsored by Preservation Resources. The reception is where we can smooze and catch up on all the news from our colleagues. We have allowed a few minutes to allow people to get from the Marriott to the Convention. Hope to see you.
