Subject: Lysol

Lysol, as a proprietary product, may have a variety of components subject to batch changes. Use of such materials on collections of long-term value is always risky and should be avoided. The same may be said for such over-the-counter products as Febreze. In addition, lysol won't "get rid of" the smell, it will only mask it. Smells in books are a problem. Since baking soda hasn't worked, I'd try activated charcoal, clay cat litter, zeolites, and/or crumpled newspaper. Michael Trinkley, Ph.D. Director Chicora Foundation, Inc.
