The National Archives of Scotland (NAS) is an Executive Agency which
has responsibility for selecting, preserving and making available
the public records of Scotland.

Applications are invited from experienced and qualified archive
conservators to join the Conservation Unit of the National Archives
of Scotland, based in west Edinburgh. This location has
responsibility for the collections distributed over three sites in
Edinburgh.

You must have a qualification/degree in book or archive and paper
conservation and relevant practical experience. Registration from
the Society of Archivists and/or Accredited status would be
considered desirable and we will support staff to progress towards
this status.

You should be an innovative and versatile conservator who can
demonstrate a wide knowledge of traditional and modern conservation
techniques. You will work well in a friendly team environment of 7
conservators working on the collections. Good communication skills
and ability to undertake responsibilities away from the "bench" are
required. In particular, you will be able to provide professional
advice on collection care and preservation issues. Basic computer
literacy is desirable. Enthusiasm, flexibility and sound
interpersonal skills are essential.

This appointment is permanent and pensionable. Applications from
candidates who wish to work part-time or on a job-share basis will
be considered. Salary will be in the range UKP15,200 to UKP20,647.
Starting salary is dependent on experience and skills evident in the
selection process. Pay is performance related, offering progression
and bonus opportunities to high achievers. The salary package is
supported by a generous non-contributory pension scheme. Salary will
be pro rata for part-time. A flexible working hours system is in
operation.

Candidates invited for interview will be asked to bring a portfolio
containing photographs, documentation and examples of recent work.
