Subject: Quinque Foundation fellowships
Quinque Foundation Invites Applications for Fellows Program Quinque Foundation, a private US-based charitable trust, announces a partnership with Historic Scotland, an executive agency within the Scottish Executive charged with the responsibility for safeguarding Scotland's built heritage, and invites applications for the Quinque Fellows Program in Conservation. Quinque Foundation, a private family foundation based in Rhode Island and a client of Philanthropic Advisors in Boston, Massachusetts, is currently accepting nominations for the Fellows Program. Launched in May 2001, the Quinque Fellows Program exists to increase the fund of conservation skills in both the US and Scotland. The Program has been developed collaboratively by Quinque Foundation, whose mission includes the conservation and enhancement of natural and built heritage, and Historic Scotland, a quasi-government agency charged with the responsibility for safeguarding Scotland's built heritage and promoting its understanding and enjoyment. The Quinque Fellows Program aims to provide for the expansion of an individual's awareness, expertise and experience in built heritage and historic preservation matters through exposure to training and education; networking and outreach; operational quality and standards; research; publications; and conferences and seminars. Worldwide preservation efforts depend on sound, informed and sustainable conservation methods. A comprehensive strategy for ongoing training is an essential part of managing the economic resources of built heritage internationally. Effective utilization of skills and cross training opportunities between Historic Scotland and US based preservation and conservation programs will strengthen the capacity of built heritage. It is through this model that the Quinque/Historic Scotland Partnership will work from to enhance the skills and knowledge of traditional crafts and building techniques in the US. Under the Quinque Fellows Program, trades people, professionals, scholars, architects and historians in the conservation and preservation field will travel from the US to Scotland or Scotland to the US to participate in educational coursework and hands-on training and field projects at historic sites. The program's objective is to create practitioners who can contribute to the repair of buildings and historic objects in the US and Scotland by marrying the practical hands-on skills of traditional crafts with a sound scientific conservation training which includes materials science and conservation ethics. Quinque Foundation is currently accepting applications from both US-based and Scottish-based preservation and conservation professionals. Fellowships run for 6-12 weeks throughout the year. Applicants must be sponsored by a nonprofit organization as defined by Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Fellowships are funded entirely by Quinque Foundation and range from $5,000 - $15,000. As a private foundation, Quinque must abide by regulations concerning the making of grants, therefore, all fellowship grants will be made to the nonprofit organization serving as the grantee organization, not the individual fellow. The grant is intended to cover (i) the travel costs of the fellow, including round trip airfare and rental car, (ii) a per diem stipend to the fellow for meals and incidental expenses incurred during the fellowship, and (iii) a travel stipend for the fellow to attend relevant major conferences or additional training courses and cover the cost of gas and parking. For application materials and additional information, please contact Philanthropic Advisors. Deadline: September 24, 2001 Final decision will be made within six weeks of the final deadline.
