Book Conservator National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside (NMGM) 12 Month Fixed-Term Contract Salary UKP16,500 National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside (NMGM) <URL:http://www.nmgm.org.uk> is responsible for the management of eight institutions containing outstanding collections of national importance in the areas of art, history and science. We are seeking a suitable candidate to undertake the conservation of 16th to 19th Century printed books. The candidate will work primarily on a collection belonging to the Liverpool Medical Institute. The successful applicant will work as a member of the Paper Conservation Section based in the award winning Conservation Centre. Applicants should have a conservation degree or relevant qualification. The successful applicant will have a sound knowledge of historical bookbinding structures along with excellent craft skills and practical experience in current book conservation techniques. Some experience with vellum and parchment would be beneficial. Well-developed communication and organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently and to deadlines. Computer literacy would be desirable.
