Assistant Preservation Librarian Position at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Available immediately Reporting to the Preservation Librarian, the Assistant Preservation Librarian manages operations, staff, and budget for the Imaging and Photographic Services Section, which includes 3 full-time staff, 1 FTE student assistants and facilities for in-house production of microfilm, preservation photocopies, photographic reproductions, and digital images. The Assistant Preservation Librarian works with selectors and curators in general and special collections to identify materials for reformatting; contributes leadership for developing digital imaging services and establishing policies and procedures for preserving materials originally created in digital formats; conducts condition assessment projects; and participates in disaster preparedness and recovery, education and outreach, and overall management of the Preservation Department. In addition to internal preservation projects, the Imaging and Photographic Services Section serves other libraries in the region and reproduces rare and fragile library materials requested by patrons. Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited Masters Degree in Library Science; demonstrated interest in preservation; demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and carry out projects; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work under minimal supervision; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, staff, faculty and the public. Preferred: Certificate in preservation administration; working experience in preservation, still photography, microfilm production, and digital imaging; supervisory experience; knowledge of formal standards for preservation reformatting; project management experience. Salary and Benefits: This is a twelve-month academic librarian appointment with a minimum salary of $33,000.
