Director, Moving Image Archiving and Preservation Program
New York University

The Department of Cinema Studies at New York University seeks to
appoint a director in the area of moving image archiving and
preservation commencing in September 2002. The successful candidate
will direct the Department's new MA degree program in Moving Image
Archiving and Preservation.

Among the responsibilities of the Director will be overseeing the
evaluation and running of the MA program, chairing the program's
steering committee at NYU, and helping to fundraise for the program.
The appointee will also teach two to three courses, participate in
student advisement, and share in regular departmental committee
work. We expect that the candidate will draw on the resources of the
New York area in their teaching, developing links with local
laboratories, museums and archives.

The successful candidate will bring vision to the degree, lending it
prominence and visibility. He or she will have the capacity to
oversee and manage a complex educational training program. The
appointee will have extensive experience in moving image archiving
and/or preservation, or in programming moving image media, including
international experience in these fields. He or she will have an
in-depth knowledge of the conservation and archiving of television,
video, and new media, as well as of film. The tenure rank of the
appointment is open, and the salary is commensurate with experience.

Please write a letter stating your qualifications and include your
curriculum vitae, documentation of your main activities in archiving
and/or programming, and any relevant publications. Send these, as
well as three letters of recommendation, to
