Director, Moving Image Archiving and Preservation Program New York University The Department of Cinema Studies at New York University seeks to appoint a director in the area of moving image archiving and preservation commencing in September 2002. The successful candidate will direct the Department's new MA degree program in Moving Image Archiving and Preservation. Among the responsibilities of the Director will be overseeing the evaluation and running of the MA program, chairing the program's steering committee at NYU, and helping to fundraise for the program. The appointee will also teach two to three courses, participate in student advisement, and share in regular departmental committee work. We expect that the candidate will draw on the resources of the New York area in their teaching, developing links with local laboratories, museums and archives. The successful candidate will bring vision to the degree, lending it prominence and visibility. He or she will have the capacity to oversee and manage a complex educational training program. The appointee will have extensive experience in moving image archiving and/or preservation, or in programming moving image media, including international experience in these fields. He or she will have an in-depth knowledge of the conservation and archiving of television, video, and new media, as well as of film. The tenure rank of the appointment is open, and the salary is commensurate with experience.
